Photos app on iPhone taught to translate laundry instructions from clothing labels

With release iOS 17 the stock Photos app will get an update to its Visual Search feature. In iOS 16, it lets you find text in a picture and translate it, save an email address, or call a phone number. In iOS 17, they will add recognition of different icons and icons.

At the presentation, Apple said that with this feature, a smartphone with iOS 17 will be able to explain what the different icons on the car dashboard mean, but MacStories editor Federico Viticci noticed in beta one more use of the function.

"Visual Search" can now recognize icons with washing instructions. It is enough to take a picture of a clothing tag and run a scan to get a decoding of each symbol. Previously, for this you had to use separate scanner applications or tables with a decoding of all the icons.
