The new films will not overlap with Amazon projects.
At the end of February, Warner Bros. officially confirmed, which is going to release several films in the Lord of the Rings universe - and in no way related to the series "Rings of Powerfrom Amazon. Other official details were not disclosed, but the THR publication, citing insiders shared behind the scenes information.
It looks like the WB is going to turn The Lord of the Rings into a Star Wars-esque movie franchise. Moreover, the film company wants to play with trump cards and involve Peter Jackson, as well as screenwriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who worked on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Previously director himself told THR that he was approached by Amazon to be involved in the development of the series, but the conversation was silenced by the studio and the script was never sent to him.
So far, these are only plans: there have been no specific agreements yet, and work on new scenarios has not begun.
At the same time, insiders express concerns about the series: they worry that Tolkien's franchise may not be enough for two different visions. This has a powerful counterargument: Warner Bros. received the rights to the Third Age of Middle-earth (the time when Gandalf, Aragorn and other famous heroes lived, as well as the battle for the Ring of Omnipotence took place), while Amazon may release content about the lesser-known Second era.
As a result, the situation is relatively fair: Warner Bros. got a more popular part of the history of Middle-earth, the key events of which have already been told in six films, and Amazon has a less well-known era, but more creative freedom.
