Google launches new Drive client for Windows and macOS
Miscellaneous / / August 01, 2021
Google announced about launching a new application to access Disk from Windows and macOS. It will be available to all users in the coming weeks and will gradually replace Backup and Sync. The latter will stop working in October this year.
The updated client of the service should significantly simplify the process of backing up data and synchronizing files on a PC. It will be a unified solution for both personal use and teamwork, including in the corporate sector.
With the new client, all users will receive:
- Ability to sync local folders (for example, "Docs" or "Desktop") with "Google Drive".
- The ability to sync photos and videos with Google Photos without having to open a browser.
- The ability to sync files from external drives (for example, USB flash drives or hard drives).
- The ability to log in with up to four Google accounts at the same time.
- The ability to "mirror" files from a PC in the cloud service to access the most important data from your computer from anywhere in the world.
Also, the application will add integration with the Microsoft Outlook service, useful notifications and step-by-step instructions for archiving and synchronizing data.
You can switch to the new "Drive" after the notification from Google. The developers promise to transfer everyone to a unified client before the fall.
