OnePlus combines OxygenOS with Oppo's ColorOS

June 16 OnePlus CEO Pete Lau officially announcedthat the company becomes an "independent part" of OPPO. Today it has become knownthat the software platforms of the brands, OxygenOS and ColorOS, will also be merged.
The skins will not merge into a single whole, but will share a common codebase. It should standardize OnePlus' software experience and streamline the development process for future OxygenOS updates.
Device users are unlikely to notice any visual changes. OxygenOS will remain the “global” operating system for OnePlus-branded devices, while ColorOS will remain on Oppo and OnePlus devices in China.
OnePlus says the move to a single codebase will allow the company to guarantee better support for Android updates in the future. The life cycles of the brand's current devices will be as follows:
- Flagships, including the T and R models, will receive three major Android updates and four years of security updates.
- Nord and Nord CE smartphones - two major Android updates and three years of security updates.
- Nord N smartphones will receive one major Android update and three years of security updates.
OnePlus is limiting its commitment to upgrade to the OnePlus 8 model - this smartphone and all previous extended support are not covered.
