In his works E.A. Frolova pays special attention to methodological pluralism in the field of legal understanding, the axiology of law, and the ideas of a legal and social state. She was one of the first to show the reception of Kantian philosophy (mainly the Baden school) on Russian philosophy of law at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. (E.V. Spektorsky, P.I. Novgorodtsev, B.A. Kistyakovsky, V.S. Solovyov, E.N. Trubetskoy, V.A. Savalsky, N.N. Alekseev, N.A. Berdyaev, P.B. Struve, S.N. Bulgakov, etc.). Law, according to Frolova, is antinomic and multifaceted: it is simultaneously part of nature (cause-effect relationships dominate) and culture (the sphere of consciousness and free will). Being associated with the values and traditions of society, law is always an organic element of national culture. Law, as a social regulator, although it strives for universality, cannot be applied to all historical types of society. The versatility of law is reflected in the pluralism of doctrines about it, grouped into three main types of legal understanding: legal-dogmatic (law is law), sociological (law is a legal relationship, legal order and acts of application of law), natural law (identification of law with legal consciousness and legal ideal). Since legal doctrines are based on their unique complex of theoretical, methodological, value and ideological approaches, types of legal understanding cannot be mechanically reduced to a single interpretation of law, which has an indisputable the truth. Pluralism of approaches influences the differentiation of legal sciences, which by the end of the 19th century. are divided into theory of law, sociology of law and philosophy of law.
