An archive unpacker has appeared in all versions of Windows 11
Miscellaneous / / November 02, 2023
Microsoft started deploy the KB5031455 update for Windows 11 22H2 with a built-in archive extractor. Previously this function appeared in version 23H2.
Now all users can upload 11 file formats within the system: .rar, .7z, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .tar.zst, .tar.xz, .tgz, .tbz2, .tzst and. txz. But only if they are not password protected - for such cases you will still need third-party utilities.
In the future, Windows 11 may also support LZH and XAR. The developers' goal is to allow users to work with almost all modern archive formats.
The patch will be available to all users from November 14th. But now you can download a preliminary version of it from Windows Update. To do this, select the option “Get the latest updates as soon as they become available.”
KB5031455 also includes AI assistant Copilot, redesigned Start menu, new Explorer interface, volume mixer and much more.
