Microsoft Bans Unofficial Xbox Controllers and Accessories
Miscellaneous / / October 31, 2023
Steering wheels, gamepads, adapters and other devices will simply stop working.
Microsoft started combating “unauthorized” controllers and accessories for Xbox consoles. Already in November, such accessories will no longer be used for the game.
The corresponding warning is already displayed for players who use non-original accessories. The text states that the device will work for another 2 weeks after receiving the notification, after which it will not be usable. Some users note that the controllers stopped working immediately after the warning, without waiting for the specified date.
The update only affects third-party controllers that have not been certified as “designed for Xbox”—in other words, they have not received Microsoft's equivalent of the Made for iPhone badge.
Nowadays, most certified third-party Xbox controllers are wired. Microsoft did not license the Xbox Wireless protocol to third-party brands, remaining virtually the only manufacturer of official wireless gamepads. Windows Central portal
assumesthat with the ban on unlicensed accessories, Microsoft will finally begin issuing certification to third-party wireless controllers.More Xbox news🎮
