The flexible iPhone will have to wait much longer.
Apple is "intensively developing" a foldable iPad and could announce it as early as late 2024. About it reported DigiTimes, which cites its supply chain sources.
Apparently, the company has been working on a flexible tablet for about four years. Changes are constantly being made to the design, so the process is delayed. Only after its release is it planned to begin developing a folding iPhone. This strange decision is due to the less popularity of the iPad. Any potential problems with it are easier to resolve and pose fewer reputational risks.
However, the development of this device has not yet been completed. Initially, this was handled by Apple's design team, but this role has now been transferred to the purchasing department to reduce costs. Apple's main goal is said to be to create a more cost-effective prototype
At the current stage, the main problem is the hinges of the device and its panel. The manufacturer is concerned that the screen may “crumple.” The company allegedly hopes that Samsung and LG will soon provide a display that will eliminate this.
If progress remains steady, mass production of Apple's first foldable device could begin in 2025, the source concluded.
