It's hard to believe, but the Cupertians want to compete with Google laptops.
Apple is developing a low-cost version of the MacBook and plans to release it in the second half of 2024. This was reported by an insider from Taiwan.
How writes DigiTimes, a cheap laptop will look like the Air and Pro lines - the case will remain metal, but will be made "of other materials." What exactly is not specified. But the change in price will affect the technical characteristics much more noticeably. However, there are no details about this yet.
It is noted that the new MacBook is being developed to compete in the Chromebook segment, which has shown steady growth in recent years. In 2019, 13.9 million Chromebooks were sold, in 2020 - 30.4 million, in 2021 - 33.5 million. Inexpensive Google laptops are in demand in the educational field, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, MacRumors still advises be wary of rumors of this kind and wait for confirmation of information from other sources. This is still only the first message about the development of a new series of MacBooks.
