Miscellaneous / / July 25, 2023
Large Russian banks have stopped accepting dollars and euros through ATMs. About it report Izvestia with reference to the press services and call centers of banks. Now this option is not available in 11 out of 13 systemically important credit institutions in Russia. At the same time, it is still possible to deposit currency into the account at branches.
At VTB, replenishment of accounts in Western currencies through an ATM has not been working since April 19, 2022, Raiffeisenbank and Unicreditbank closed this possibility this spring. Here is the full list of banks that do not accept dollars and euros through ATMs:
- VTB;
- "Sber";
- "Opening";
- "Raiffeisenbank";
- "UniCredit Bank";
- "Gazprombank";
- "Rosselkhozbank";
- "Promsvyazbank";
- "Credit Bank of Moscow";
- "Rosbank";
- Sovcombank.
Experts interviewed by Izvestia associate such a step with a decrease in the profitability of these operations and risks due to sanctions and freezing of foreign currency correspondent accounts in foreign banks. Also, the refusal to accept dollars and euros may be associated with a general decline in the population's demand for this service. It is noted that it is not profitable to store currency in Russian now: replenishment makes sense only if you need to make a payment or transfer.
