Rover 45 chainless electric bike introduced. It accelerates to 45 km/h

French electric bike manufacturer Cixi has teamed up with lightweight and durable bike frame maker Look Cycle to create an e-bike without a chain or belt. At Prodays 2023 they showed concept Rover 45 with Pedal Energy Recovery System (PERS).
In essence, on-board electronics, controlled by special algorithms, set the resistance of the pedals - and the energy coming from the driver provides propulsion with the help of a hub motor. The driver can change the amount of resistance, and the system will automatically adjust the torque and power - for example, increasing the support when climbing a hill.
Also, the electric bike uses regenerative braking - that is, the energy generated during braking is used to recharge the battery. It also reduces brake pad wear.
Cixi claims that the PERS system can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h on the track, but the Rover 45 only goes up to 45 km/h with support. In parallel, the company is working on Vigoz - a concept electric vehicle that looks more like an enclosed three-wheeler a golf cart than a bicycle or motorcycle, but in theory it will be able to accelerate to 120 km / h and get a power reserve 160 km.
As for the Rover 45, it has a 700Wh battery that sits between the downtube and seatpost while the PERS box dangles from the bottom bracket. The user can control the power through the application on the smartphone. It will also allow you to block electronics during parking, share a digital key or turn on a sound signal to search for a device.
Details on the commercial release of the Rover 45 are not yet available, but Cixi plans to use the PERS system in various types of electric light vehicles. The first such devices will go on sale in 2024 - but it may not be the Rover 45.
