Scientists: environmental apocalypse could happen in our lifetime
Miscellaneous / / June 23, 2023
Previous studies did not take into account water supplies and the rate of pollution of rivers, so it seemed that the cloudless life of people would last for a long time.
British scientists have studied how tipping points in nature reinforce and accelerate each other, and have come to the conclusion that ecological collapse can occur already in the current generation. Study this was published in the journal Nature Sustainability.
The authors warn that more than a fifth of the world's ecosystems, including the Amazon rainforest, are at risk of extinction.
This could happen very soon. We may indeed be the last generation to see the Amazon.

Formerly UN Panel on Climate Change predictedthat the tipping point in the Amazon will not come before 2100.
The authors of this paper note that previous studies have focused only on climate change and deforestation. Their modeling also took into account water reserves and river pollution (due to mining). And when these threats enter the equation, the catastrophe comes much earlier.
