Social network Bluesky from the creator of Twitter came to Android
Miscellaneous / / April 21, 2023
It's kind of like Twitter, but with the security of Mastodon.
In early March, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced new social network Bluesky. Before Elon Musk bought Twitter, it was developed in-house, but now Dorsey is launching it as a standalone service. If in March the beta version of Bluesky was available only on iOS, now you can try it on Android.
According to the principle of operation, Bluesky differs little from Twitter: here is the same system with the ability to publish posts up to 256 characters, and reactions are expressed in likes, reposts and comments. But the most interesting is inside. The social network is decentralized and uses the Authenticated Transfer (AT) protocol on an independent server - it's like ActivityPub at the core Mastodon.
The social network is currently available only by invitations - as club house at the start. The lucky few who already have access note the friendly and inviting atmosphere that is reminiscent of Twitter in its early years.
Bluesky does not yet have some basic features, including private messages, but the developers are actively working on their implementation. In the end, so far this is just an open beta, from which it is illogical to demand everything at once.
