From the author of "Oldboy" with Robert Downey Jr.: a teaser for the series "Sympathizer" was released

As part of a big presentation of new projects, Max (formerly HBO Max) presented the first teaser for The Sympathizer. The series is based on the 2016 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by Viet Thanh Nguyen.

The book tells about the fall of the government of South Vietnam in 1975, and subsequent events that unfolded already in California, USA. The protagonist is a political prisoner, formerly a secret communist agent, whose name remains unnamed throughout the novel.

The showrunner of the series was the Korean director Park Chan-wook, who directed Oldboy and The Handmaid. He also co-wrote and directed the first three episodes.

Hoa Xuande played the title role in The Sympathizer. And Robert Downey Jr., who acted as one of the producers, played several colorful characters at once.

The series is produced by A24 Film Company. The streaming release will take place in 2024.
