WHO announced the discovery of "omicron" in 106 countries of the world

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that cases of infection with the omicron coronavirus strain were recorded in 106 countries around the world.

This variant spreads faster than the previously dominant delta, even in countries with high levels of immunity. However, data on the clinical severity of omicron are still limited.

The number of hospitalizations in the UK and South Africa continues to rise, which could soon overload local health systems.

Also, a rapid increase in new cases of the disease is now recorded in the states of the Western Pacific Ocean, Southeast Asia and the eastern Mediterranean.

WHO continues to evaluates the overall risk associated with the new variant of the coronavirus is “very high”.

Recall that for the first time the World Health Organization reported on the identification of the "omicron" on November 26. Preliminary evidence suggests an increased risk of reinfection with this variant of coronavirus compared to other strains.
