Yakut salad topped the top 50 worst dishes in the world
Miscellaneous / / April 06, 2023
Culinary publication TasteAtlas published anti-rating of the 50 worst dishes in the world. It was compiled based on the average ratings on the site. There is only one Russian dish on the list - but in the first place with an average rating of 1.4 points out of 5. This is Indigirka salad, a hallmark of Yakut cuisine.
The dish is based on cubes of raw fish (usually nelma or muksun, Siberian species of the salmon family). After slicing, the fish is frozen - as is the dish on which the salad will be served. Next, the frozen fish is mixed with diced onions, salt and pepper, then everything is sprinkled with vegetable oil and infused in the refrigerator for 10-20 minutes. Sometimes served with red caviar and a slice of lemon.
Here are the top 10 dishes:
- "Indigirka" (Russia) - a salad of fresh-frozen fish, onions, oil, salt and pepper.
- Pizza pie (Canada) is a layered pizza usually baked in a pie pan.
- Haukartl (Iceland) - partially decomposed, and then withered shark meat.
- Anis de Flavigny (France) - dragee candies, during the creation of which new layers of flavored sugar syrup are gradually applied to one anise seed for 15 days.
- Fried spiders (Cambodia) - here the name speaks for itself: these are large spiders literally fried in oil (the size of each palm).
- Fried pickled herring (Denmark) - not to be confused with the German Brathering herring, which is first fried and then marinated: here the opposite is true.
- Pea soup (Denmark) - as well as in Russia, it is usually cooked with vegetables and served with smoked meat.
- Vegetable roll (Great Britain) - despite the name, the dish is based on beef. This is a sausage made from minced meat with fresh herbs and onions.
- Veal's head (France) - the dish has many ways of preparation, including jelly, which is boiled from the head of a calf with gelatin and vegetables.
- Fried pizza (Scotland) - in this version, pizza is not baked in the oven, but fried in oil, like french fries (and often in oil from potatoes or fish).
