Most autonomous Macs: MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max processors unveiled

A press release has appeared on the Apple website dedicated to the updated MacBook Pro with screens of 14 and 16 inches. As expected, the new items did not receive external differences from the previous redesign: all the changes are inside.

First of all, these are fresh ARM processors Apple M2 Pro and M2 Max. The latter in its maximum modification provides performance 6 times better than the top Intel-based MacBook Pro - at least according to the manufacturer. The M2 Max also supports up to 96GB of combined memory for the most demanding tasks. M2 Pro supports up to 32GB storage.

The combined memory bandwidth of the M2 Pro is up to 200 GB/s, twice that of the regular M2. The M2 Max promises 400 Gb / s at all.

The 16-inch version provides up to 22 hours of battery life, the 14-inch version provides up to 18 hours. By comparison, the 13-inch MacBook Pro on the M2 lasts up to 20 hours on a single charge. The base 14” MacBook Pro comes with a 67W charger, while higher-end versions get a 96W charger. The MacBook Pro 16” comes with 140W charging in all models.

In addition, the new MacBook Pros support Wi-Fi 6E for faster data transfers. They were also equipped with the latest HDMI with the ability to output images to external 8K displays at 60 Hz (or 4K at up to 240 Hz). Other connectors have not changed: three Thunderbolt 4, an SDXC memory card slot and a MagSafe 3 charger.

In the US, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro starts at $1,999, with the base 16-inch model starting at $2,499. The younger 14-inch model received a 10-core processor, 16-core graphics, 16 GB of combined memory and a 512 GB drive. The 16-inch has a 12-core processor and 19-core graphics in the base, the same amount of memory.

Both new models will go on sale on January 24 in the first wave of 27 countries (of course, Russia is not among them).
