This superstition originates from ancient traditions common in Slavic countries.

In popular representations, a mirror was boundary between the earthly and other worlds. And it was especially dangerous at night - in the "impure" time, belonging to demonic forces.

The Slavs everywhere encountered a ban on looking in the mirror at night. It was thought that this could:

• call death;
• lead to premature aging;
• cause nightmares;
• lead to the birth of ugly children;
• make you see in the reflection something that belongs to the other world, related to the area of ​​​​death and evil spirits.

The echoes of this belief were transformed into a vague idea that sleeping in front of a mirror is bad. The reasons are many and varied.

You can find references to the fact that sleeping in front of a mirror spoils family relationships, leads to illness and loss of luck, and prevents lonely people from meeting their soul mate.

There is also a belief that the mirror "absorbs" all the negativity like quarrels and tears, and then transfers it to a defenseless sleeping person.

Is it worth removing the mirror from the bedroom

Some popular beliefs are not based on an empty place. For example, they can prohibit really dangerous actions, although they explain this with mystical reasons.

But in the case of mirrors, this does not work. There is no reasonable reason to change the interior of the bedroom for the sake of folk ideas. By the way, in Slavic traditions from mirrors recommended stay away not only at night, but also during thunderstorms.

Women it is forbidden was looked into reflective surfaces throughout pregnancy. It was also worth protecting small children from mirrors, and until the moment they have first teeth.

But if you are not going to follow the traditions of your ancestors, you can safely put the mirror where you like.
