Miscellaneous / / April 05, 2023
We reveal the list of our favorite gadgets, applications, movies and series.
In the last days of December, it is customary to sum up the year and remember what good it brought. We didn't break from tradition and chose devices, content and services that impressed us in 2022. It's time to distribute the well-deserved awards!
Best Smartphone - iPhone 14 Pro Max
The best smartphone, in our opinion, should not only provide users with maximum opportunities, but also offer something new. The iPhone 14 Pro Max falls under both specifications this year. Apple's flagship boasts great battery life, a great display, and one of the best cameras. And the creators managed to turn the “island” in the middle of the screen from a disadvantage into a useful functional element.

Best Gadget - Amazon Kindle (2022)
A lot of different devices came out this year. We did not see anything fundamentally new, so we decided to give the award to the best upgrade - the updated Amazon Kindle. The reader has retained a nice price and its main features, but the amount of internal memory and pixel density have become larger, and the ancient microUSB has finally been replaced by USB‑C.

Best Android App - Bromite
In this nomination, we give the victory to Bromite. This is a clone of Chrome, but devoid of all its shortcomings. The developers have kept the convenient image search and tab sorting in the application, and also added tracking protection and an ad blocker. The result is a fast and secure browser with a familiar interface.

Best Film: Banshee of Inisherina
More big-budget blockbusters, extreme social horror and other high-profile hits, we were impressed by Banshee of Inisherina, a quiet masterpiece with the magnificent duet of Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. The director of the film, Martin McDonagh, managed to combine the funny and the tragic and in an original manner to tell about death, friendship and the meaning of life.

Best TV series - "Black Bird"
This year, like the previous one, we remember dozens of bright projects. But we want to especially note the "Black Bird". The Apple TV miniseries hasn't been talked about as much as Wednesday or House of the Dragon. And it seems to us, absolutely in vain! The story of a serial killer, based on real events, features a captivating and unconventional plot, impeccable acting and perfect music from Mogwai.

The best Russian film - "Nedetsky Dom"
We named Mikhail Raskhodnikov's "Nedetsky Dom" as the best domestic film. The drama with Ivan Okhlobystin about the horrors of orphanages and the confrontation between man and the system, despite the acute topic, came out emotional and bright.

Our favorite among Russian TV series is Black Spring. The tragic story of teenagers seeking justice won us over with its uncompromising nature, vivid images, brilliant dialogues and the accurately conveyed atmosphere of a provincial town.

Best Book: 100 Years Ahead
We decided to give this title to a book that helps to cope with problems and gives hope for a brighter future. In 100 Years Ahead, sociologist and philosopher Roman Krzhnarik suggests using long-term thinking to overcome global crises and achieve shared prosperity. The ideas from his work have influenced politicians, activists and entrepreneurs, but every reader will be able to master and use the author's approach.

Best Podcast - "Students"
We consider Nastya Krasilnikova's investigative podcast to be the best in 2022. In it, the journalist collected stories about sexual and emotional abuse at a summer school for gifted children, spoke with participants of those events and experts and tried to understand why in our country they prefer to hush up the problem harassment.
