Fix formatting errors with just a few clicks.
1. How to remove large spaces in Word between words through alignment
Quite often, large gaps between words in the text appear due to the wrong type of alignment. Namely - alignment in width. When this layout is selected, the spacing is increased so that the words take up the entire line. This is easy to check and fix.
Switch to the Home tab and look at the alignment type in the Paragraph section. If there is an option "By width", then this is the problem.
To get rid of spaces, just switch to alignment "Align left" by clicking on the corresponding button or by pressing the keyboard combination Ctrl + L.
2. How to remove large spaces in Word between words by removing unnecessary
Another common case is the use of double, triple or even more spaces for manual text alignment, which is sometimes done by inexperienced users. Of course, if there is more than one space, then the distance between words will be large.
Click on the capital letter "P" icon on the "Home" tab or press Ctrl + Shift + 8 on your keyboard. The dots that appear between words are spaces. With proper formatting, there should be one of them, but not two, three, five or more.
To put the document in order, it is enough to delete the extra ones with the Delete or Backspace key. If there are many such spaces, then it is more convenient to remove them automatically through text replacement.
To do this, press Ctrl + H on your keyboard. In the "Find" field, put two spaces, and in the "Replace with:" field - one space. Click Replace All.
Word will find and replace the specified characters. If there are still unnecessary spaces in the text, click "Yes" to search again.
In the same way, if necessary, replace triple, quadruple, and other spaces by inserting the required number of characters into the "Replace" field. When finished, turn off the display of hidden characters with the same button or with the combination Ctrl + Shift + 8.
3. How to remove large spaces in Word between words by removing tabs
A variation of the previous situation is the same manual alignment of the text, but not with spaces, but with the help of tab characters. The fix is ββto remove them one by one or replace them with spaces automatically.
Turn on markup characters on the Home tab or by pressing Ctrl + Shift + 8. Tabulation is indicated by a right arrow. If you see this, then this is our case.
Copy such a character, then press Ctrl + H and paste it into the "Find" field, and in the "Replace with:" field, enter a space and click "Replace All".
Confirm the replacement, and all tab characters will change to periods, that is, ordinary single spaces.
It remains only to turn off the display of special characters by clicking on the special button on the toolbar or by holding down the keys Ctrl + Shift + 8.
4. How to remove large spaces in Word between words by removing line breaks
Another option when large gaps appear in the text is line breaks. They are inserted with the Shift + Enter key combination and move the cursor to a new line without creating a paragraph. When such hyphens are removed, the void between words will disappear.
To notice a problem in the text, press Ctrl + Shift + 8 or the already familiar button on the Home tab and carefully look at the gaps in the text. If there are curved arrows next to them, these are transfers.
Just put the cursor next to such an arrow and press Delete. The hyphen will be removed, and the text from the bottom line will fill the void. It remains only to disable the display of special characters.
5. How to Remove Large Spaces in Word by Turning on Word Wraps
If there are many long words in the text, then they may not fit at the end of the line and Word will send them to the next one. Because of this, the right border of the text will have a lot of voids and large gaps. This problem can be solved by enabling hyphenation.
To do this, switch to the "Layout" tab and click "Hyphenation". If the changes should be applied not to the current paragraph, but to the entire text, first press Ctrl + A or select the desired fragment with the cursor.
Select the "Auto" option, and Word will break words that do not fit into syllables, moving the endings to the next line. Formatting will become much more compact.
