NASA has shown a place on the moon where Artemis astronauts can land
Miscellaneous / / April 03, 2023
Last August, NASA showed possible sites for landing a man on the moon. Then 13 zones were identified that were potentially suitable for landing. Agency now published a snapshot of one of the most convenient sites for landing on the moon - the Malapert massif.
A beautiful image of this region was obtained using the camera of the automatic interplanetary station Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LROC). The picture was taken on March 3, 2023, when the probe was about 170 km from Shackleton Crater.
NASA noted that the view from the top of the Malapert massif, towering 5,000 meters above the base, should be incredible. In the distance, the photo also shows a rock 3,500 meters high.
The Malapert massif is thought to be the remnant of the rim of the largest and oldest impact basin on the Moon, formed over 4 billion years ago. More recently, this magnificent peak was chosen as a landing candidate for the Artemis III (Artemis III) mission.
Recall that the other day NASA and Axiom Space submitted suits for landing on the moon. Once sent to the satellite, they will never return to Earth.
