The creators of the biopic will tell how the Canadian company lost the war to Apple.
The first trailer for BlackBerry has been released online. This is a picture of a Canadian company that produces business smartphones of the same name. Directed by Matt Johnson (Operation Avalanche).
The film focuses on how Research In Motion (the name of the BlackBerry corporation until 2013) underestimated the impact of the iPhone on the market, which eventually led to the collapse of its mobile unit. The plot is based on the book Lost Signal: The Untold Story of the Incredible Rise and Fall of BlackBerry by Wall Street Journal writer and journalist Jackie McNish.
The film stars Jay Baruchel (Tropic Troopers) and Glenn Howerton (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia).
"The true story of the meteoric rise and disastrous fall of the world's first BlackBerry smartphone" commented project at IFC Films, which is producing the film.
Although the filmmakers note that this is the story of the world's first smartphone, this may still not be entirely true. There is still no consensus on who became the pioneer in this niche. Before BlackBerry devices, there was, for example, the Nokia 7650, which many consider to be the first smartphone.
The world release of the picture is scheduled for May 21, but the premiere has already taken place at the Berlin Film Festival.
