Smartphones with Android 14 will be able to convert physical SIM cards to eSIM

With release first beta Android 14 for Developers, we are starting to learn more about the innovations in the latest version of the OS. Recently became knownthat the update will allow you to remove optional pre-installed software from smartphones, now journalist and Android enthusiast Mishaal Rahman discovered the function of converting physical SIM-cards to eSIM.
With the update, the conversion will be carried out directly in the device settings, and not through the operator's application, as is the case now. The SIM Manager system application from Google (or its equivalent from the firmware manufacturer) will be responsible for the function. These applications are used to manage the LPA profiles required for eSIM to work.
Also in the firmware there are hints of the ability to transfer eSIM from one device to another. Now it does not work quite intuitively: you need to disable the current eSIM on the old smartphone and activate it again on the new one. Some operators do not allow you to do it yourself: to activate a new eSIM, you will have to contact the office.
Both of these features are already implemented in the iPhone: when transferring data from an old iPhone to a new one, you can immediately synchronize eSIM, and the "convert to eSIM" function is already in the settings - provided that the operator supports this feature.
