12-episode film adaptation of the famous adventure in India.
Premiere of Apple TV+ series Shantaram will take place on Friday, October 14th. The project is a real long-term construction – it has been under development since 2018.
Shantaram is based on the 2003 novel of the same name by Gregory David Roberts. By 2010, when the book reached Russia, its total circulation had already exceeded one million copies.
The series, like the book, focuses on a former writer and robber named Lin. After being sentenced to a long prison term in Australia, he manages to escape from custody. Lin moves to India, where he intends to rebuild his life.
The main role was played by Charlie Hunnam, known for the films "Pacific Rim", "King Arthur: The Sword of Kings" and "The Gentlemen". The script was written by Steve Lightfoot, who is also the showrunner. Directed and executive produced by Bharat Nalluri (The 100).
The first three episodes will air on October 14, with a new episode airing every Friday until December 16. In total, there are 12 episodes in Shantaram.
