Google will not check how app data from Google Play is used
Miscellaneous / / July 18, 2022
Everything is like in the App Store - and this is not a compliment.
Earlier this year Google Play started showingWhat data about users the applications collect. The new section gradually appeared in the cards of an increasing number of programs, and from July 20 should become mandatory for everyone. But shortly before the release, it became known that Google does not check the data provided by the developers.
On this noticed Mishaal Rahman is a technical editor at Esper, a cloud-based Android device management platform. He noticed that instead of the "Permissions" section, the app page now says "Data Security". According to support site Google Play, all responsibility for providing this information lies with the developers:
You [the developers] are solely responsible for providing complete and accurate information on your app's Google Play page. Google Play checks apps for compliance with all policy requirements; however, we cannot communicate on behalf of the developers how they handle user data.
Only you have all the information you need to complete the data security form. If Google becomes aware of a discrepancy between the behavior of your application and the data provided, we may take appropriate action, including enforcement.

In other words, the developers themselves declare how and why they manage user data, and Google will only double-check this in case of mass complaints.
It is worth noting that the App Store works on the same principle - and the Washington Post's large-scale study in 2021 showedthat not all the information provided by the developers is true.
