Apple plans to equip iPad with under-screen Face ID before iPhone

Such a tablet may come out next year.
In 2024, Apple will release the iPhone 16 Pro with under-screen Face ID scanners, so the only hole in the display will be a small cutout for the front camera. This was told by a well-known insider and analyst of the display industry Ross Young.
According to him data, in the iPhone 17 series, all models of the line will be equipped with such a scanner, and in 2026 the iPhone 18 will be released with a display without any holes on the front panel at all: the camera will also go under the display.
Theoretically, on the iPad there is no special need for this: due to the large size of the tablet, it is not difficult to hide the sensors in the frame. On the other hand, moving the sensors under the display will help reduce the size of the device. In addition, placing Face ID under a screen with a lower pixel density per inch may be technically easier.
It's also worth considering that Apple releases fewer iPad Pros than iPhones or standard iPads, so one of the generations of the iPad Pro could be a testbed for new technology before it is transferred to more popular devices.
Yang notes that the first iPad Pro with under-screen Face ID sensors could be released as early as 2023 if engineers don't run into major testing issues.
