They want to send the most important knowledge of mankind to the moon - for storage

This will save them for future generations, because the Earth is no longer so safe.
The American company Lonestar Data Holdings plans to store human data in underground lava tubes on the moon. This will be a backup with the most important and valuable earthly information in case of a global catastrophe.
It is incomprehensible to me that we store our most valuable assets, our knowledge and our data on Earth, where we detonate bombs and burn things. We need to place our assets off the planet where we can keep them safe.
Christopher Stott
founder and CEO of Lonestar
As an unfortunate example of storage, Scott cited the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, known as the Doomsday Vault. There, at a depth of 130 meters, samples of seeds of the main agricultural crops of the Earth are stored. The system turned out to be not perfect - in 2017, this bunker almost flooded with melt water due to climate change.
Lonestar already concluded contract for their first two missions, which will host a data center on the moon. Its main idea is that the servers on the satellite can communicate with the Earth, as well as store information that we do not want to lose for many years.
In addition to the obvious problems like temperature fluctuations on the Moon ranging from 106°C to -183°C, you need to take into account that the satellite does not protect its surface from cosmic radiation in the same way as the atmosphere Earth. That is why they want to place a data center in lava tubesLava tubes or tunnels are cavities in lava flows, elongated in the form of corridors. They are considered the best place to build bases and start colonizing the moon. The length of these pipes can reach hundreds of meters, and the thickness - more than 10 meters., which provide a much more stable temperature and also protect against penetrating radiation.
Lonestar is not alone in considering such an idea. The Italian space agency, as part of NASA's Artemis program, commissioned Thales Alenia Space to prepare proposals for data centers on the moon. Part of the Artemis program is a permanent human presence on the Moon, or a long-term lunar base. This will also require local data centers.
