Xiaomi and Lenovo limited the supply of devices to Russia

Laptop shipments fell by more than 40% and smartphone shipments by nearly two-thirds.
Chinese tech companies are refusing to do business in Russia under the pressure of US sanctions without making any public announcements. Deliveries are reduced even by those companies that dominate the market. About this with reference to their own sources writes The Wall Street Journal.
According to the publication, these companies include Lenovo, one of the leaders in the PC market, and Xiaomi, which produces smartphones and other mobile gadgets. Unlike many Western firms, these companies avoid public statements about the situation in Ukraine or their business in Russia, as Beijing opposes Western sanctions.
Only SZ DJI Technology Co., which produces DJI drones, did not adhere to this position. She announced last month that she was suspending her business in both Russia and Ukraine.
Chinese exports of technological products to Russia in March fell sharply compared to February: deliveries laptops fell by more than 40%, smartphones by almost two-thirds, and telecom base station exports — by 98%.
Major U.S. chip makers supplying Chinese firms are demanding sanctions compliance customers to ensure that their semiconductors do not end up in goods shipped to Russia in violation of rules.
The WSJ notes that the sharp decline in technology exports to Russia highlights the scope of Western sanctions and their ability to penetrate deep into supply chains, forcing companies to boycott even when the governments of the countries in which they are based oppose any restrictions.
