Roskomnadzor will restrict access to Instagram
Miscellaneous / / March 11, 2022
The reason is calls for violence against Russian citizens.
The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation demanded to restrict access to Instagram for Russian users. Roskomnazdor implements this solution, informs official website of the department. In the Investigative Committee declared to initiate criminal proceedings against Meta.
Instagram, like Facebook and WhatsApp, is owned by the American company Meta Platforms, Inc. Meta spokesman Andy Stone said on March 11 that residents of a number of countries will no longer be banned from the social network for dissemination of information calling for murder and violence against Russians, including military personnel.
The Prosecutor General's Office believes that such actions are dangerous for the citizens of the country, so access to the platform for Russians will be limited. Facebook in Russia blocked March 4 (access to it is only via VPN). But whatsapp close will not - it is considered a means of communication, and not of posting information.
