WHO proposes lifting restrictions on international travel

No, the pandemic has not been defeated - these measures are simply not effective.
As part of the tenth meeting of the COVID-19 Emergency Committee, the World Health Organization suggested lift or relax international travel bans.
Such measures do not provide adequate protection and continue to contribute to the economic and social stress faced by States. Their ineffectiveness was confirmed by the restrictions imposed after the discovery of "omicron," WHO representatives added.
It was also noted that it is not worth requiring confirmation of a certificate of vaccination against COVID-19 for international travel given limited global access and unfair distribution vaccines.
States should consider options to ease the conditions for international travel by removing or modifying measures such as testing and/or quarantine requirements, where appropriate.
Travel regulations (e.g. masks, isolation/quarantine, and vaccinations) should be risk-based and not impose a financial burden on travelers.
