British and Japanese scientists have deduced certain dependence between the amount of amino acid consumed and alpha wave activity of the human brain. They found that 50 mg of L-theanine increase the activity of alpha waves in the brain with a maximum effect, which lasted about 80 minutes after ingestion. This amount is equivalent to three cups of tea.
