Instagram is working on a new feature called Favorites. It will allow you to indicate the contacts whose publications should appear in your feed first, that is, above the others. About it writes 9to5Mac.
According to the reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, this function will appear in the application settings as a tab of the same name. If it works the same as on Facebook, then you can add up to 30 contacts there.
While the function is only being tested, so now you can specify the priority of publications of favorite contacts in other ways. For example, enabling notifications for some of them. Another option, more obvious, is to interact with the desired contact: like and comment on messages, communicate via private messages, and so on.
Recently, the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, explained that when forming a news feed, the Instagram algorithm finds "signals" based on information about the user's preferences, as well as what has been published and about whom. Here are the signals that Instagram takes into account, in order of importance:
- Post information is mainly data about the popularity of the post, as well as the content itself (when and where the post was published).
- Information about the author - this information helps to understand how interesting a person may be to you, and takes into account signals such as, for example, the number of interactions with this contact over the past few weeks.
- Your activity - it helps you understand what you might be interested in, and includes signals such as the number of posts you liked.
- Your communication history gives you an idea of how interested you are generally in a particular person's posts. For example, do you comment on each other's posts.
