OnePlus slows down the performance of its smartphones when launching popular apps

The manufacturer has already confirmed this and tried to justify it.
During performance testing of OnePlus 9 Pro, AnandTech portal editor noticed rather strange behavior of the device. In browser benchmarks Speedometer 2.0 and JetStream 2.0 in Chrome, the flagship showed surprisingly low results, which are incomparable even with inexpensive devices of the past years.
A deeper analysis of AnandTech showed that the built-in OnePlus Performance service triggers different processor modes depending on which program is turned on. This was confirmed by carrying out the same tests in the Vivaldi browser, where the results were many times higher.
The presence of such a service in a smartphone is not surprising - many manufacturers in this way optimize the CPU when working with heavy applications. However, in this case, the mechanism worked on the most common programs: Chrome, Twitter, Zoom, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Discord, Microsoft Office applications, Firefox and even their own services OnePlus.
At the same time, the really difficult tasks remained intact. For example, the launch of the very resource-intensive game Genshin Impact was not controlled in any way by the performance service.
Shortly after the publication of the AnandTech report, the popular Geekbench benchmark decided to exclude flagships OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro from their rating, and also promised to check other smartphones of the brand for such manipulations.
OnePlus has already responded to AnandTech's report by confirming a targeted understatement of smartphone performance:
“Our top priority has always been to maximize the usability of our products, in particular by responding quickly to important user feedback. Since the launch of the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro in March, several users have told us about areas where we could improve the battery life of the devices and reduce their heat levels.
As a result of this feedback, our R&D team has been working on optimization over the past few months performance of smartphones when using many popular applications, including Chrome, matching processor requirements with the most suitable power. This helped to ensure smooth operation while reducing power consumption.
While this may affect the speed of devices in some testing applications, our goal is to as always - to do everything possible to improve the performance of devices for our users. "
This answer suggests that the performance downgrade was activated some time after the release of smartphones. However, in fact, a surprisingly low score in the same JetStream 2.0 was observed in the OnePlus 9 Pro already at the start. It confirms overview flagship portal PhoneArena, released the day after the official announcement devices.
