Samsung smartphone users have long complained that the company is releasing its flagships with Snapdragon processors only for the USA, Canada and South Korea, while the rest of the world is content with Exynos chipsets, its own development Samsung. A month ago, disgruntled fans even launched petition, urging the company to abandon this scheme - it has already been signed by almost 50 thousand people.
The main reason why Exynos is criticized is its less impressive performance and energy efficiency compared to top-end Qualcomm processors. But how much is this difference visible in everyday use, and not in the form of parrots in the benchmark? YouTuber PhoneBuff was able to get copies of new Galaxy S20 and S20 + with both processors and compared them in my traditional robotic tests.
The standard S20 faced off in the speed test. In both cases, completely identical versions of the smartphone were used (12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage), only the processor is different - Snapdragon 865 versus Exynos 990. During the test, the same applications were opened on both devices and performed simple actions: load document in Word, add filter to Snapseed, render video in Adobe Premiere Rush, etc. Further. Then the applications were re-launched to check how much the smartphone was able to hold in the background. As a result, the Snapdragon version completed the task 8 seconds faster.
The enlarged Galaxy S20 + have been tested for autonomy. The verification mechanics are standard: on both smartphones, the same standard actions are carried out for an hour - viewing the feed in social networks, chatting in the messenger, and even recording video. As a result, the smartphone with Snapdragon 865 lasted almost an hour longer than its Exynos brother.
Thus, user dissatisfaction really makes sense. And if in terms of performance this is not so critical, since these are still very powerful smartphones, and you will hardly notice the difference until do not put two smartphones next to each other, the advantage of an extra hour of battery life is a strong argument in favor of the version with Snapdragon.
