How to prepare spelled
Sort the groats and remove all debris. Then rinse the spelled well. You can put it in a sieve and send it under running water. Or do it in a bowl, changing the liquid several times until it becomes transparent.
If the groats are whole, soak them. Cover with water and leave for 1 hour to swell a little. Then remove all liquid. You do not need to soak the crushed spelled.
How much liquid to take
As a rule, cereals and water are taken in a 1: 2 ratio. That is, 1 glass of spelled will need 2 glasses of water.
If boiling porridge in milk, take 3 cups of liquid. Usually, cereals are prepared with a mixture of milk and water in approximately equal proportions.
Whole and crushed spelled are cooked the same way.
What to add to the spelled
At the beginning of cooking, add salt to the cereal and, if desired, your favorite spices. For 1 glass of spelled, 1 teaspoon of salt is enough. If you want a sweet porridge, add 1 tablespoon of sugar. Although the amount of seasonings is best determined to your taste
You can put fried vegetables or mushrooms in a salty dish in the middle or at the end of cooking. And add honey to the sweet when serving, jam, fruits or berries.
And in the porridge with sugar, and in the salty version, you should throw a piece of butter. This will make the dish even more flavorful and tender.
How to cook spelled on the stove
Put the cereals in a saucepan, cover with water or a mixture of milk and water and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to low. In this case, the liquid should boil a little. Place a lid on the pot. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 25-30 minutes.
The liquid should be absorbed. If there is still water at the bottom, continue cooking for 5-10 minutes. Or remove the pan from heat and wrap something warm for 15–20 minutes.
How to cook spelled in a slow cooker
Place the cereal in a bowl multicooker and cover with water or a mixture of milk and water. Cook for about 40 minutes on Porridge or Groats.
