What is sirtfood diet
The sirtfood diet is a diet based on foods that increase sirtuin levels.
Sirtuins are a group of seven proteins found in the body. These substances have many unique properties. SirtuinsA review of the sirtuin system, its clinical implications, and the potential role of dietary activators like resveratrol: part 1 repair DNA damage, regulate aging processes, affect the body's ability to resist stress and certain diseases, including cancer, and also improve metabolism and help get rid of excess fat.
There is dataA review of the sirtuin system, its clinical implications, and the potential role of dietary activators like resveratrol: part 1that some foods (called sirtfoods - similar to superfoods) can cause the body to produce more sirtuins.
In 2016, information about sirtuins was popularized by two nutritionists from Great Britain - Aidan Goggins and Glen Matten. They released the book Sirtfood diet, which detailed which foods and lifestyle changes can increase the level of these proteins in the body.
Goggins and Matten argue that following the sirtfood diet will lead to rapid weight loss, allowing you to maintain muscle mass, and at the same time will be an excellent prevention of a variety of diseases.
The book quickly became a bestseller. Celebrities have taken advantage of her recipes. So, this power system is credited with the lightning slenderness of the singer Adele. Also, Prince Harry followed the sirtfood diet before the wedding.
What is the sirtfood diet
To stimulateMetabolic and neuropsychiatric effects of calorie restriction and sirtuins the body to produce sirtuins, you need to eat as many sirtfoods as possibleNutrition and healthy aging: calorie restriction or polyphenol-rich "MediterrAsian" diet?. For example:
- kale;
- rucola;
- olive oil;
- parsley;
- capers;
- buckwheat;
- black coffee;
- green tea;
- celery;
- Red onion;
- garlic;
- apples;
- citrus;
- Strawberry;
- dates;
- soya beans;
- Red wine;
- dark chocolate.
Calorie restriction is equally important. And often the most difficult.
So, the British journalist Rachel Martin tried‘I gave up my social life for the’ Adele ’Sirtfood diet, and it wasn’t worth it’ on a sirtfood diet, composed for the singer Adele. The process took three weeks and was divided into several stages:
- The first 3 days, you can consume only 1,000 kcal per day, and the diet should consist of one a full lunch (the menu includes only any sirtfoods, except for chocolate and red wine) and cocktails from green vegetables.
- In the next 4 days, the calorie intake increases to 1,500. Two full meals (again with an emphasis on sirtfoods) and two must-have vegetable shakes.
- For another 14 days, you can eat three times a day. The diet expands slightly. For example, Rachel added to it fish grilled, canned tuna, stewed vegetables and finally was able to indulge in chocolate and red wine. There is no definite calorie limit at this stage, but the emphasis on sirt foods remains, so eating a lot is still almost impossible.
Rachel really lost weight: in the first week she lost three kilograms, a few more left in the following days. However, the journalist admitted‘I gave up my social life for the’ Adele ’Sirtfood diet, and it wasn’t worth it’that the meager diet exhausted her, leaving her no strength either for communication with friends, or for training, or for other activity.
Rachel Martin, journalistI have tried other diets that include fasting in the past, but none of them affected my daily and social life as devastatingly as this one.
But perhaps these efforts and losses are worth it? The answer is again ambiguous.
Does the sirtfood diet really work?
Such strict calorie restrictions cannot fail to work by definition: if you get no more than 1,000–1,500 kcal per day, you will probably lose weight quickly.
The only problem is this. NoThe Sirtfood Diet: A Detailed Beginner's Guide strong evidence that the sirtfood diet is more effective or beneficial than any other low calorie diet.
Its plus is the emphasis on sirt foods. Most of them are from parsley to green tea - really beneficial to health. But it is not known for sure whether they increase the level of sirtuin proteins in the body: the vast majority of existing studies today were conducted on animals and did not concern humans.
The sirtfood diet has much more disadvantages:
- Too few calories. It is worth reducing the calorie content of the daily diet only after consulting a therapist, nutritionist or attending physician. There are people for whom such restrictions are categorically contraindicated.Intermittent energy restriction in type 2 diabetes: A short discussion of medication management. For example, those who suffer from diabetes.
- Limited selection of products. Most likely, the sirtfood diet will not be able to provide the body with a sufficient amount of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, especially at the first, most severe stage.
- Feelings of hunger and fatigueassociated with a severe calorie deficiency.
In general, you should not expect a miracle from the sirtfood diet. It will help get rid of a few extra pounds and is unlikely to harm an adult healthy person.
But as soon as you return to the usual calorie diet, the lost weight will be restored.
As for the anti-aging and healing properties of sirtuins, everything is not clear here either. Three weeks on a sirtfood diet is unlikely to be enough to have a long-term health impact.
