Workplaces / / December 27, 2019
Maxim Babich
Web developer, the main specialization - relational databases and asynchronous data processing. Director of development at RU-CENTER Group. From 2006 to 2015 he worked first in the Mail. Ru Group: engaged in project "Answers" and "Money". Author of the course of lectures "Development of Web services and management of the development team."
What do you do in your work?
Since the end of 2015 worked as director of development in the RU-CENTER Group. Together with colleagues technology platform upgrade and improve the development processes to accelerate the development of our core products - domains and hosting.
Prior to that, he worked for nine years in the Mail. Ru Group. I started as a leading developer of project "Responses," and left the company in the position of technical director of the project "Money", which is built from the ground up.
What is your occupation?
I went to the Far Eastern State University, the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science.
Originally wanted to become a specialist in the field of information security. But from the very first course started to develop web services.
University education - is the soil for further development. But that it will grow, it depends on the soil itself and abandoned in her seed, and from those who cultivated it.
Unfortunately, all the possibilities of education are already apparent after his student years. Thus, many seeds just do not germinate.
I think that right after school extra four or five years of higher education to anything. Too much fatigue from years of continuous learning, too low efficiency. Only two years to lay the basis and the formation of a system view.
Then you need five years of practical work in different companies. And only by the age of twenty-five people will be able to consciously decide in what form it is necessary to further education: University of specialized courses or something else.
The future, in my opinion, for flexible personalized education. When depending on the desires and human competences from his current place of work and the tasks he will be selected teachers to bring the competence to expert level. Acupressure education is much more effective than mass "pollination" of students.
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
The same traits and habits in different situations can be both strength and weakness. Philanthropy can go sideways when making hard decisions about the fate of a careless employee. Propensity for reflection and self-examination may result in indecision and lack of action. Stubbornness can be a major factor for success in the difficult negotiations. How do I know?
But the approach of "everything is relative" may seem tediousness those readers who responded to each question are waiting for some kind of revelation.
How does your workplace?
I clearly agree with a situation where the necessary lightness and mobility, and where - completeness.
Therefore, in the office I have a large table, where, next to the two monitors connected to a conventional system unit, and are waiting for their mobile devices:
- old but not killed Samsung D780 for calls;
- HTC smartphone for fast access to the Internet, email, notes, tasks, and messengers;
- Windows-tablet Prestigio Multipad to read books and articles, the work of the meetings;
- Asus Zenbook laptop for presentations, trips and work "in the field".
Everything is synchronized and all the necessary information at your fingertips.
All wireless keyboard and mouse, one of the monitors - with support for touch-screen, and routers and other gadgets - with support for Wi-Fi in the 5 GHz band.
Main software on the host:
- to surf the Web - Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome;
- for e-mail - The Bat! and microsoft Outlook;
- for tasks and calendar - Atlassian Jira and Microsoft Outlook;
- notes - OneNote and then Microsoft Outlook;
- for schemes and diagrams - Draw.io.
I've tried a lot of different tools, but Microsoft products consistently among the leaders on a set of necessary functions. Yes, the interface design - it's not the most powerful feature of Microsoft but sometimes it is easier to close your eyes on the design than on making the zoo.
For a long time suffered that Outlook for Android does not support tasks, and notes. Then he found the perfect Nine application that is able to do all that I am using the desktop version of Outlook.
On the main smartphone software - is an application associated with communications. Slack, HipChat, Facebook Messager, Telegram, Skype, LinkedIn, Twitter, Nine, mail Mail. Ru, Gmail - the whole screen is occupied only by them.
Plus different applications and services for travel and trips: taxi, parking, public transportation, navigation, booking hotels and air tickets.
There are several applications related to finances: mainly online banking and stock markets. And several applications to read, videos and music. They, incidentally, is the same for mobile devices, and desktops: AlReader, Foxit Reader, VLC, AIMP.
Is there a place in your paper work?
Yet there. "Warm lamp" paper is gradually losing ground and is held exclusively at the expense of stickers, notebook or sheets to describe some ideas. Paper books are almost not read, except that the guides or business literature, if not be found in electronic form.
Stickers use in meetings for quick recording key points. But then almost always bear them in electronic format.
On paper, there are some ideas. Usually in the form of prototypes, sketches or diagrams of lists, which can then be digitized in the charts, mind maps, or simply take a picture.
Constantly I use a large board and colored markers. The usual practice - after the meeting to take a picture or a piece of board and send photos to the participants.
What is in your bag?
I have several backpacks. Each of them has its purpose. Some are better suited for travel, some - for daily trips to Moscow.
On weekdays, the backpack can find a laptop, wireless headphones (of course, if they are not on me), a notebook and a few pens. Sometimes they are added to the plate and a clicker for presentations.
The traveling camera appears in a backpack, several lenses and a bunch of chargers.
How do you organize your time?
My working time is organized as follows.
The day is divided into several segments, during which I have been doing a certain group of cases.
- Morning otvozhu to work with the immediate goals of the company: main quarterly or semi-annual project for the development of products and infrastructure development.
- More quarter of the time - an operating working solution daily emerging issues, postal correspondence. On the same slot fall meeting with colleagues - programmers and managers, team leaders and heads of development of the company.
- Remaining time - for the long-term plans, the study of new technologies and development methods or analysis of competitors' projects.
All slots for different groups of itemized tasks in the calendar, so when planning the working week clearly know what day of the week and at what time I will carry out specific tasks. Boring and predictable? Perhaps. But this technique will greatly reduce the time scheduling of the working week and the specific working day.
Previously, every morning I looked through the list of unfinished tasks, set priorities, part of the problem of transport on the other days. Then he thought, what time of day is best to start a specific task. Planning sometimes took up to half an hour. Now, having completed the next stage of the problem, I know at once, the next time you come back to it. You just need to look at the next available slots for this group of problems.
In addition, each task write down the key points highlighted in color and those that require some action. It's convenient: open the task and immediately see, on what stopped the last time and that today it specifically to do.
And, of course, only he can not be undone, so some tasks are assigned to employees, leaving behind only the control. If you know that an employee can handle yourself, I delegate the task entirely. Ability to delegate - one of the main skills of the head, and trust - one of the main motivating factors.
What's your daily routine?
I'm a night owl, which is already several years too late to bed and early to rise. Of course, waking up later and I also know how to love. But the first few years of life that interfere with school and university. Now I have a dog too early to wake in the morning: "Let's go for a walk, well, let's go, well, when we go, then? Five minutes later? Already passed? And now? "What kind of owl lives.
In the early rise has its advantages. For example, a half-hour morning walk allows you to smoothly accelerate the arrival of the head and in the office have been vigorous enough, without wasting time on the buildup. In the evening the same with dogs walking in a relaxed atmosphere allows you to reflect on the events of the day or something to discuss with friends.
Round off the evening with a book or industry news.
How to pass the time in traffic jams?
The traffic is usually just listen to music or something to ponder. The main thing - do not cease to observe the surrounding traffic conditions. Necessarily because someone makes a surprise to brake sharply or try to regroup right at you.
While waiting for a flight, or in public transport is usually just something I read from one of the gadgets or do some little things at work (writing notes, creating tasks, respond to emails).
During a flight rarely manage to get some sleep, so try to alternate different activities: listening to music, watching movies, reading, sketching articles or just talk with neighbors. Sometimes even the trifling conversation can throw some interesting thoughts. For example, during the last flight from Vladivostok to Moscow to talk about football led to the idea of changing the format of interviews so that the adaptation of new employees faster.
What's your hobby?
Main hobbies I have two. First - this is football. I'm a fan of one of the English teams. For several years, all releases are associated with a visit to the matches in England. What for? This emotion, this drive is communicating with local fans. No television, no visits to sport bars that do not transmit.
Each trip be sure to bring matchday scarf - scarf with special emblems playing that day teams. Scarves and flags hung with one of the rooms in the house.
Well, apart from visiting the matches, I take the car and go for a drive across the country. Over the years it was everywhere: England, Wales, Scotland. All the coast of the county, major natural attractions and interesting city - tens of thousands of kilometers.
Since Britain is connected and a second hobby - my dogs. This two males breed Welsh Corgi Pembroke. Native British breed, hundreds of years ago, there were in Wales. Corgi - the smallest Shepherd shepherds.
My no exception. Every month we go to class and pasom sheep. Also often show dogs at shows. My "biscuits" are great to travel, so the geography of our exhibitions with them is quite extensive: from Belgorod in the south to St. Petersburg to the north.
In Moscow, the dog still worked as a psychotherapist in our company. Once a month we organize "Corgi-days" when I bring pets to the office. They are very cute, great uplifting and relieve stress. Tired? Cuddle "Cookie Monster"!
What place sport occupies in your life?
Once I engaged in athletics, to play for the University. But then I had to make a choice: play professional sports or web development. I chose the latter.
So I gave up a run before he became a craze. However, my dogs love to walk, so no long walks do not do any single day.
Layfhakerstvo from Maxim Babich
People are divided into several groups depending on how the perception of information. I am one of those who perceive good read. Videos or podcasts - it's not my size.
If we talk about the book, the strongest in the past year, the two authors have influenced me.
- Frederic Laloux with a book on the evolution of the companies'Opening the organization of the future».
- Ken Wilber with his work on the evolution of human consciousness. For example, "Brief History of Everything».
I'm not a master to write reviews, so just say that these authors gave me serious food for thought about people, their relationships and the development of communities. And in these books can be found quite useful practice for representatives of many professions related to communications.
You notice how search has evolved, and the perception of information?
information has now become so much time to read everything that is simply unrealistic. Even just follow the news more and more difficult. Hence the flowering of personal recommendation, monitoring the opinion leaders, read reviews. Friends instead of RSS-feeds, article instead of books.
A good critic - a godsend. A good writer - the treasure.
Ten to fifteen people on Facebook can provide information on all occasions. Someone writes well about the books, someone - of cities and countries, one - about sport, and someone - on the professional tools and trends in the industry.
Interested in trends in education? Dima Voloshin writes well about this. Interested in start-ups? Read Sasha Mountain with its daily surveys. And so on.
What is your life motto?
I study and teach to learn.
I was fortunate in my life to people who share their experience, knowledge and emotions. And I try to give something the people around them, to encourage them to develop.
