Why Apple should be completely redo iTunes

Hardly anyone will dispute the fact that the iTunes It is the most confusing and overloaded Apple application. Mediakombayn many years to reshape the length and breadth, you get new features, then losing them. Infinitely darn Frankenstein's monster can not, and someday Apple will still have to convert iTunes from scratch. It seems that time is at hand, and here's why.
It argued that iTunes would benefit the division into several parts, each of which would be responsible for its own set of tasks. And you would be right, if you say that Apple has already sold it - in iOS. At first glance, it seems logical and correct, but in fact such a decision will only complicate the entire ecosystem.

Now iTunes is used for playing media files (including music, radio, movies, audio books), sync with iOS-devices, digital purchases in Apple Store and download content from iTunes U. It turns out that the separation of iTunes functions into separate components, in OS X will be seven new applications:
- "Music" - to manage your media library, Apple Music Use and listening to Beats 1;
- "Video" - which will be collected movies, music videos and TV shows;
- iTunes Store - for the purchase of music and film;
- App Store - for the purchase of iOS-applications and games;
- iTunes U - to view learning content (probably combined with a shop);
- "Podcasts" - to download and listen to podcasts.
shorten
Such a model is justified on iOS, where we have to work on a very limited screen space. In OS X is completely does not make sense, because the interface of Mac-application allows you to comfortably perform a variety of related tasks. But there is another problem - some of the content can be attributed to several applications. How, for example, with clips? For now, they refer to the "Video" and "Music."
This suggests that applications that perform similar tasks, you need to combine. Based on this, our list is reduced to four points, and contains the following applications:
- "Media" - an application for music, radio, videos, podcasts, and movies;
- utility for synchronizing media content on iOS-devices;
- iTunes Store for purchasing music and video (and possibly, podcasts);
- App Store for iOS-app purchases.
cut more
Since iOS-device synchronization manager - the only application for the transfer of the programs on the iPhone and iPad, it can be combined with the App Store. Minus one more item on our list, obtained a total of three applications:
- "Media" - an application for music, radio, videos, podcasts, and movies;
- utility for iOS-device management and download mobile applications;
- iTunes Store to buy music and movies.
AND…
Now the fun part. All three things - it is not a separate application, but one. And we call it iTunes. Whether you like it or not, but the approach with a single application for all the needs of the work.
The idea to have separate applications for different tasks quite tempting, but believe me, this is a very bad idea. Seven, four and even three applications will take place in the dock, consume resources and fly more often than one. You very quickly get confused and tired of having to deal with all of them.
I'm not saying that iTunes in its present form is good. Not at all. For 15 years, Apple has heaped up in it such that you need to completely abandon further development of previous work and create it from scratch. But at the same time I would like to have a new iTunes was one, whole application. If you take the current functionality of iTunes and just break it down into three separate components, the application will simply inconvenient to three times.
Apple's, please Throw on iTunes atomic bomb, but, for heaven's sake, do not complicate anything when you create a replacement. ?
