How to clean apples

All apples, if they have not grown in your own garden is treated with chemicals to kill insects. So, just wash them with water is not enough.
Researchers from the University of Massachusetts decided to compare three methods of washing applesEffectiveness of Commercial and Homemade Washing Agents in Removing Pesticide Residues on and in Apples.. At first they treated fruits thiabendazole and phosmet, which destroy fungi and insects. These funds are approved by the Agency for the US Environmental Protection Agency.
After one day, one apple washed with plain water, another chlorine solution (it is usually used distributors fruit), and the third water solution from 1% baking soda. For each of the three options tested two washing interval: two minutes and eight minutes.
After two minutes, soda removed more pesticides than water and chlorine solution. It is completely cleared from the apple peel thiabendazole after 12 minutes, and from phosmet after 15 minutes. However, by this time a small amount of pesticides got into the apple.
To minimize the damage from the pesticide, wash the apples in a mixture: teaspoon baking soda in 0.5 liters of water.
Or you can clean them from the skin, but so will have to abandon it contains vitamins and fiber.
