Books / / December 19, 2019
Probably many of us, one day, I wanted to drop everything and radically change their lives. Like many, but we made one. These units include the author of the autobiography "The Journey Home" - Radhanatha Swami. He was born in Chicago. Parents gave him the name of Richard Slavin. At age 16 he, an ardent supporter of the hippie culture, decides to change his life and plunge into the Eastern culture and religion, and goes with his friend hitchhiked to India.
With virtually no money, they travel through Europe to India, eating only bread and earning playing the harmonica. On their heads dumped a huge amount of testing, from robbers in Afghanistan, to the narcotic trance in Kandahar. The author describes in great detail all the adventures on the way to its goal by providing them with their thoughts and sayings of wise men:
Every two dogs live in the heart - good and bad, and they are constantly fighting with each other. Bad dog represents our evil qualities: envy, anger, lust, greed, arrogance and hypocrisy. Good dog - it is our divine nature: forgiveness, compassion, self-control, generosity, humility and wisdom. It all depends on our choice: the dog, which we devote more time and that more food, making the choice in its favor, getting more power. She will bark loudly and eventually win her rival. To be virtuous - thus starving the bad dog and fed well.
Throughout the book, Swami thinking about spirituality and tries to find his mentor. "The Journey Home" - this is a serious enough, but not devoid of humor the story of all those tests that can confront each one of us on the way to his goal. This book gives a boost to the performance of its purpose and the opportunity to experience the same as experienced by the author.
