Kevin Feige confirms Robert Downey Jr. will no longer play Iron Man

Iron Man became an iconic role for Robert Downey Jr., but that era ended in 2019 with the release of Avengers: Endgame. After that we heard a lot rumors about the possible return of the actor, which sounded quite realistic: after all, characters are regularly resurrected in Marvel comics, why is the cinematic universe worse? But Kevin Feige has officially confirmed that this will not happen to Tony Stark.

In big article Vanity Fair, dedicated to Downey Jr.'s acting career in recent years, quotes MCU head Kevin Feige's comment on Stark's possible resurrection:

It seems that Downey Jr. himself does not want the resurrection of Tony Stark even more than the management. The Russo brothers said that he didn't even want to agree to reshoot one final line because he and the crew had already said goodbye to the character on the last day of principal photography. He agreed to re-shoot only when he was promised that this time would truly be the last.

Given the direction the MCU is heading in, there's a possibility that there could be a new Iron Man in the future - e.g. from a parallel universe, or just an heir - but it will no longer be Tony Stark, and it will not be Robert who will play him Downey Jr.
