Corning unveiled Gorilla Glass 6 - heavy-duty glass for smartphones

Corning officially announces Gorilla Glass glass 6, which is called "completely new material." In it embodied a decade of experience in developing and all the most advanced proprietary solutions. The main difference from the fifth generation of glass - high impact resistance.

This emphasis was made after studies showed that on average, people are dropping their phones about seven times a year. And at least half of all falls occur from a height of over a meter.

In the development of Gorilla Glass 6 used a completely new chemical composition, which allowed to increase the compression ratio and make the glass more durable. Testing in laboratory conditions proved that the coating is capable of sixth generation survive 15 falls from a height of one meter. This is twice as good indicator of Gorilla Glass 5.

Along with the glass itself Corning company demonstrated Ink Jet technology, which allows to customize Gorilla Glass 6. In fact, this is a unique engraving technology that allows to apply to the glass color photorealistic images and textures.

Application of such engraving did not impair the protective properties of the glass. Rather, on the contrary, the surface of Gorilla Glass 6 becomes a little more rough and tough, to better resist scratching.

Probably one of the first smartphones with glass will be Samsung Galaxy Note 9, which take place in the announcement early August.
