During the classes you will learn a lot of interesting things about the most expensive gems - diamond, emerald, sapphire, ruby and alexandrite: get acquainted with the history of the discovery of these precious stones, with the issues of their formation in nature, methods of synthesis and methods ennoblement.
You will also be able to find out why these minerals are so expensive, what determines the cost of a stone, and get practical advice on choosing a gemstone when purchasing.

Schedule: classes are held on Tuesdays at 18:30.
Class dates: 1st cycle – January 17, 24, 31, February 7.
The cycle consists of 4 lessons.

Introduction to Gem Mineralogy
The first lesson will cover the basic issues of gemology, classification of precious stones, their main types, methods of synthesis and refining. The listener will become familiar with the main criteria for distinguishing between natural and synthetic stones.
Diamond. Simple answers to complex questions
The second lesson will comprehensively examine the properties of diamond, its origin, main deposits, nature of color, synthesis methods and much more. The listener will learn simple answers to complex questions: what is the difference between a diamond and a diamond, what parameters affect the cost of a stone, how to correctly read a jewelry tag. Practical advice will be given on how to independently calculate the cost of a diamond.
Colored stones: Ruby, sapphire, emerald, alexandrite
In the third lesson, students will become familiar with the basic properties of first-order colored stones; they will learn how different colors of sapphire and ruby are achieved, which emerald is valued above others, and what is the reason for the “Alexandrite effect.” What refining methods are most often used for colored stones, and how the location of the stone affects its value.
Secrets of pearls
The final lesson of the series will be devoted to pearls: the mechanisms of their formation, composition, structure, coloring features, imitations. The listener will get acquainted with the main types of pearls and their evaluation systems, learn about modern methods of studying natural and cultured pearls. The factors of pearl aging will be considered and practical recommendations will be given for preserving its natural beauty.
