I have always wondered at what Apple chooses criteria for standard sets of photo wallpapers in their OS. They are so well-matched that perfectly calm can only do them. users Quora asking the same question, and here's what they found out.
If it is good to delve into the depths of OS X, you can find something interesting. Here on this path /System / Library / Frameworks / ScreenSaver. Framework / Versions / A / Resources / Default Collections/ Contains four folders, which point to the key themes of Apple desktop wallpaper:
• National Geographic
• Aerial
• Cosmos
• Nature Patterns
About 40% of photos of these folders are made by photographers National Geographic. In fact, more of them: if the images use the search at Google, many of the standard wallpaper and will lead to National Geographic. For example, This one Texture sheet Nature Patterns folder.

Gibbs even wrote a blog post about how Apple conducted talks with him about the licensing of one of his photos to iPhone, iPad and iPod.
In his experience, Apple has a special department of decoration (Art Department), which selects photo to use as wallpaper, and also communicates with the photographers or web sites on the licensing.
