“Government services” will be able to replace paper passports as early as 2024
Miscellaneous / / December 09, 2023
So far only in limited scenarios.
Pilot tests on using the “State Services” application instead of a Russian passport are planned to be launched next year - more about that report "News". It will be enough to show the QR code from the portal to confirm your identity at the bank and MFC, buy train tickets and undergo document verification before boarding. It can also be used to purchase age-restricted products.
A full list of services that can be obtained with a QR code instead of a passport is currently being compiled by specialists from the Ministry of Digital Development in collaboration with other departments. New use cases will be introduced in stages so that the market has time to prepare.
To use the new function, you will need to submit biometrics and add a photo to the Government Services application. It is assumed that during the check only the necessary data will be displayed: when selling alcohol, the store employee will only see confirmation of adulthood, while the bank employee will have access to your full name, passport data and other necessary information information. The Gosuslugi passport will not completely replace it, but will be able to simplify and speed up service in a number of scenarios.
They plan to start testing with Russian Railways. From April 2024, a QR code will be sufficient to board some trains. Sberbank also spoke about its readiness to support the new system next year, and Tele2 plans to join the pilot program when the legislative framework is ready.
