Technological advances, new technologies and increased demands from business users pose new challenges to professionals who choose business analysis as their field of activity. The current trends that have had the greatest impact on business analysis include the following:
- flexible development methodologies (AGILE);
- the need to master related professions (testing, development);
- in-depth work with data (Data-driven culture);
- close communication instead of exhaustive documentation;
- robotic automation of business processes (RPA);
- artificial intelligence (AI);
- predictive analytics.
Maintaining and developing the competencies that are needed today and will be needed tomorrow becomes vital both for the analyst himself and for the company for which he works. An effective motivation system, closely linked to the competency matrix, becomes a competitive advantage for any company in the fight for the best personnel.
During the course, students will be asked to assess the level of development of their own competencies, identify their strengths and areas in which they should develop in the future.
The course is based on the competency matrix contained in the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) 3.0 and consists of 29 core competencies grouped into 6 categories:
- Analytical thinking and problem solving (Creative Thinking, Decision Making, Learning, Problem Solving, Systems Thinking, Conceptual Thinking, Visual Thinking)
- Behavioral characteristics (Ethics, Personal Accountability, Trustworthiness, Organization and Time Management, Adaptability)
- Business Knowledge (Business Acumen, Industry Knowledge, Organization Knowledge, Solution Knowledge, Methodology Knowledge)

- Interaction skills (Facilitation, Leadership and Influencing, Teamwork, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, Teaching)
- Tools and technologies (Office Productivity Tools and Technology, Business Analysis Tools and Technology, Communication Tools and Technology)
A significant part of the course consists of practical exercises aimed at developing the necessary competencies and determining directions for their development.
The competency matrix under consideration can be used not only to increase the productivity of analysts (business or systems), but also for all participants in project teams.
