Modern approaches to teaching history at school pose a number of new challenges for teachers. Particularly difficult are issues related to working with gifted schoolchildren and, in particular, preparing students for successful participation in subject Olympiads for schoolchildren in history.
This preparation additionally requires students not only to thoroughly master the details of historical processes, but also to memorize many specific terms, orientation in matters of localization in time and space, but also developed skills of independent analysis of historical sources, writing small research papers based on working with sources and literature, oral presentations, the ability to participate in scientific discussion. In addition, school teachers themselves are often invited to serve on the jury of the school, municipal and regional stages of the All-Russian Olympiads for schoolchildren in history, and when performing this work they face serious difficulties due to insufficient preparedness.
