Despite the fact that the old Mac received an upgrade to OS X Yosemite, their performance on the new operating system leaves much to be desired. We chose the 6 tips to help speed up the work of the new OS X.
Turn off transparency effects
As in the case of iOS, new design chips like not all. transparency effect liked not to everyone, and in addition it has a negative impact on the performance of your computer. To disable it, go to the System Settings tab in the "Universal Access". Then, select the "Monitor» → «Reduce transparency."
I checked the effect of this effect on the MacBook Air 2013 and the results amazed me. Computer little lag, but when a large number of open applications, the animation begins to slow down. After disabling transparency everything was just perfect.
Disable unnecessary widgets in Notification Center
Widgets were not to my liking in iOS, Mac on the same story is repeated. I am sure that you do not need more than 1-2 widgets, while the rest can be removed to improve the speed of your computer.
Open System Preferences → Extensions → Today. Uncheck the unnecessary widgets. The same can be done in the Notification Center.
Clean Desk
Computer needs to redraw each icon when you close or move the application. If you can not get rid of the files on your desktop, create a folder on it and move all the files there. This will help.
Change the effect of moving the dock
Animation with which the application is sent to the dock is called the "Jinn." The more it looks like a flushing toilet, but not for us to judge. Changing the animation on a standard gives a small performance boost, so you can poeksperemintriovat it in System Preferences → Dock.
Open monitoring system
monitoring system will make it clear whether there are applications that eat up more memory and processor load greater than would be necessary.
Open the Finder, navigate to Programs → Utilities → monitoring system. Click on the CPU tab and sort processes% by CPU. If any tab in Safari loads the CPU by 80% - this is our candidate for closure.
At the same time, there are processes such as mds or mdsworker, that should not be closed, even if they stress the processor.
To change the default folder in the Finder
My Files - a new "smart" folder, which displays the files sorted by categories, indexing Spotlight. Try to change the default folder to the desktop or to download and see if the download speed up Finder.
Open Finder and go to its settings. Select the Basic tab and change the option "Show in new windows Finder».
If all of the above tips do not help, then do a clean install of OS X Yosemite. We have excellent guide about this theme.
