Not so long ago, the Russian Federation, being part of the USSR, was integrated into a single socio-economic, political and cultural-historical context of the “Soviet Empire”. However, as the USSR weakens due to a number of subjective and objective circumstances, the so-called "Russian factor".
Since the early 1990s. The RSFSR, having proclaimed state sovereignty, opened a “parade of sovereignties,” which accelerated the collapse of the union state. In the first post-Soviet years, the Russian leadership had to solve a whole range of complex problems associated with building a new democratic state “on the ruins” of the USSR. The talk, first of all, was about the creation of a market economy based on private property relations, the adoption of a new Constitution, the construction government bodies based on a clear separation of powers, building a real federal model, and forming civil society institutions etc.
Russian political process of the 1990s. developed extremely contradictorily and dramatically, replete with numerous conflict-generating kinks, which sometimes threatened the state itself. Nevertheless, the foundations of today's Russia were laid precisely during that historical period. The “zero years” were marked by the correction of the glaring defects of the existing post-Soviet system, and also by attempts to give it the necessary dynamism, subject to the preservation of internal political stability.
In this program, Russian politics over the past quarter century is presented as a series of global, natural, interconnected and long-term changes. These changes brought the Russian socio-political system to a qualitatively different (new) state. This transformation has both its positive and negative features.
