Graduated from the Department of Archeology, Faculty of History, Moscow State University in 1985. Area of scientific interest: the art of the “Scythian animal style” of early nomadic cultures of the steppes Eurasia, the early Iron Age in the history of the peoples of Western and Central Ciscaucasia in the Scythian era. As part of the development of this topic, as the head of the Stavropol archaeological expedition, with the participation of students and graduate students of the Faculty of History of Moscow State University, together with specialists from the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, conducts excavations in the Stavropol region (mounds of the early Iron Age (Scythian) and the Bronze Age, a moundless burial ground of the Iron Age century). These excavations made it possible to significantly clarify the chronology of the initial stage of the Scythian archaeological culture and obtain a number of new evidence of contacts early Scythians with Transcaucasia (in particular, with the state of Urartu) and with Western Asian and ancient Greek societies, as well as with the local Koban culture. In addition, studies of burial mounds in the Stavropol region led to the discovery of colorful Bronze Age burials, primarily of the highly developed and high-tech Maikop culture of the North Caucasus. Also in the area of scientific interests of A.R. Kantorovich is the history of archaeological science in the USSR and Russia.
